The case study provides students with the opportunity to select, design, conduct and report on a detailed systematic investigation of a topic within an applied health field. The aim is to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of a particular topic, including the academic background, relevant policy and the roles played by various actors and agencies. The case study is conducted in an academically robust and ethically sensitive manner.

Students gain a unique practical experience of ‘real-world’ practical relevance to their field of interest. Students will identify an appropriate topic for in-depth exploration alongside the guidance of the course coordinator and programme coordinator. Within the case study it is expected that the student will spend approximately 2 weeks observing the case or phenomenon of interest this can be within a workplace, a charity or a health setting. They will then spend a further 2 weeks reviewing the current literature and scientific community and finally 2 weeks looking at policies and government guidance. From these 6 weeks of data collecting students will then produce a case portfolio describing the phenomenon of interest and linking policy, research and practice
