Course Description

Students conduct a 6-week focussed study. Working with their supervisor, a topic of study will be selected. From here the student has hands-on learning of experimental planning, conducting experiments or modelling, data analysis and scientific writing. The project should be different from the MSc project conducted over the summer, and students are encouraged to work with a different supervisor.

There is no formal teaching on this course and due to workload, students are encouraged to not take any other courses at the same time.

By the end of the course students should have:

  • An ability to identify novel scientific challenges, informed by the latest literature
  • Enhanced laboratory, field or modelling expertise
  • Knowledge to complete a scientific study from inception to write-up

The course is assessed via a final report taking the form of a short scientific paper.
