Covering material primarily from experimental social psychology, the Social Mind explores the processes through which people understand both the self and others. Consideration is given to a collection of core topics in social cognition, with emphasis placed on how laboratory research can potentially inform important societal issues. For example, the Social Mind details: (1) the dynamics of prejudice and stereotyping; the costs and benefits of mind-wandering (i.e., daydreaming); the efficacy of self-control; and the processes through which people attribute minds to both humans and inanimate objects.
