This course will explore ways of collecting qualitative data in the TESOL context, including classroom observations, questionnaires, interviews and focus groups. There will also be some focus on analysing the structure of academic articles.

This course will explore ways of collecting qualitative data in the TESOL context, including classroom observations, questionnaires, interviews and focus groups. Students will critically evaluate qualitative TESOL research articles with a view to identifying their strengths and weaknesses. There will also be some focus on analysing the structure of academic articles. As part of the process of analysing research articles, students will be encouraged to develop and reflect on their personal beliefs about teaching pedagogy and how these beliefs relate to recent research findings.
