This course introduces MEd students to the use of Mindfulness in classroom to enhance learning, wellbeing and peer and teacher relationships. Students will engage with a range of experiential practises and underlying principles, concepts and neurobiology within mindfulness and compassion. Students will then have opportunities to develop knowledge and understanding of mindful practises and how to apply them safely in the classroom environment. They will develop skills and understanding in how to apply mindfulness to their personal wellbeing and that of their pupils.

This course explores mindfulness and its application in the classroom and encourages students to use the emerging research now available to support mindfulness.
Students will explore a range of mindfulness principles, concepts and their underpinning science and consider the potential impacts in the classroom for both pupils and teachers.
Students will then engage with a range of mindfulness and compassion experiential practises and through collaborative learning, develop their practical knowledge and understanding of mindfulness in order to evaluate its application in the classroom.
Using a research base which supports teachers in understanding ethical, best practise and safeguarding issues, particular to the classroom, students will apply their theoretical and experiential learning to the teaching, learning and wellbeing aspects of a Primary classroom.
As wellbeing is now part of the UK and Scottish curriculum, mindfulness in schools is growing in popularity, this is a timely offering. Mindfulness as applied to wellbeing will be explored and enacted through mindfulness practises.
They will also present their ideas about supporting classroom-based mindfulness activities for pupils.
