Course Overview

This course will explore the challenges faced in women’s health and health care in a global setting. Students will gain knowledge of how gender differences, equality, women’s family roles, community and society support, and approaches to health care systems all play a role in women’s health. It will also present how women’s health intersects with broader social, economic and political factors.

Course Description

The course aims to demonstrate multi-dimensional views for women’s health on a global setting, and review and discuss the latest evidence and policies informing actions to improve women’s health outcomes throughout their lifecycle. Students will learn what is needed to ensure good quality women-centred healthcare being implemented in different socio-cultural situations while considering varying economic and political factors.

Teaching and learning for this course will involve a combination of videos with accompanying self-tests and quizzes, video interviews with accompanying guides, a computer-based practical session, self-study of recommended reading material, discussion boards and assignments. You will be expected to engage with the online material each week. We would strongly encourage you to complete all the suggested exercises as these are designed to deliver and reinforce the course material. Some units involve a greater time commitment than others, but on average you can expect to spend around 10-15 hours per week working through the materials and contributing to the forums. This time commitment includes preparation time for assessments.
