Hot Topics in Lifestyle Health will focus on finding trustworthy scientific data to support evidence-based conclusions, and disseminate this in an effective and engaging way to educate a target audience. The course will start with exploring the latest evidence for three contemporary research topics: Lifestyle Medicine, Obesity & Healthy Weight Loss in Adults, and Food Choice & Behaviour. These topics will be delivered as short online courses and taught by experts in the field. You will then go on to design your own short online course as part of a team, choosing your own research topic.

As part of the ‘Hot Topics in Lifestyle Health’ course you will learn to evaluate a wide range of data and discover how and where to find the data you need to support evidence-based decisions and conclusions. You will also learn how to disseminate this information in an effective and engaging manner to educate a target audience.
The ‘Hot Topics in Lifestyle Health’ course will start with an opportunity to learn about the state-of-the-art of three contemporary research topics: Lifestyle Medicine, Obesity and Healthy Weight Loss in Adults, and Food Choice and Behaviour. The three topics will be delivered as three short on-line courses, and you will learn from experts in the field.
And the end of the three short on-line courses you will complete a short MCQ test.
You will then go on to develop your own short online course as part of a team assignment, outlining the intended learning outcomes, identifying the relevant research experts and papers, and designing an overview of online content and assessments. You will submit your ideas for your own short online course on a lifestyle health-related topic as part of a ‘new course form’, and communicate your ideas as part of an online team presentation.

Info about preparing the ‘new course form’ will be provided during the tutorial sessions. On-line feedback on the submitted ‘new course form’ for the short online course will be provided to the team, covering each of the elements (background, description, intended learning outcomes, research experts and papers, overview of online content, assessments, reflection on team performance), and the evaluation of contribution and performance of individual team members. A marking rubric will be applied. Feedback will be provided within 3 weeks of submitting the ‘new course form’. There will be an overall grade for the team submission. This grade can be rounded up or down by a maximum of 1 point for individual team members depending on the reflection of team performance. |

The team will present the new short online course (course description, intended learning outcomes, overview of online content in relation to relevant research papers and assessments) to the other teams. The team members are asked to answer questions and other issues raised by the audience. Info about preparing the presentation will be provided during the tutorial sessions. On-line feedback on the presentation of the new short online course will be provided to the team, covering each of the elements (course description, intended learning outcomes, overview of online content in relation to relevant research papers and assessments), and the ability to answer and address questions and issues by the audience. A marking rubric will be applied. Feedback will be provided within 3 weeks of delivering the group presentation. |
