Course Overview

This course provides students with an understanding of the financial system by introducing students to the reasons for, and nature of, financial markets and financial institutions, before moving on to explore the need and importance of regulation, investigate the causes and consequences of the recent 2008 Global Financial Crisis, and discuss future reform.

Course Description

This course is designed to  

  • To develop students’ appreciation of the role of the financial system and the ability to identify and evaluate the prudential, economic and efficiency factors that motivate the control of the activities of financial agents and markets;
  • To introduce students to the regulatory frameworks of the financial products, markets and institutions;
  • To enhance students’ ability to evaluate the economic and financial implications of the control and regulation in financial system.
