Students will be introduced to delivery requirements for Intelligent Mobility (IM) projects, focused on underlying technology and data requirements. The class will address topics ranging from the development of IM business models, through to the application of information technology for purposes such as traffic control and information provision. Technology and data requirements for models such as Mobility as a Service (MaaS) will be considered to provide a holistic understanding of the requirements for IM service delivery.

Widespread availability and adoption of new technologies and methods of information provision are having significant impacts upon the planning and delivery of transport services. Increasing access to detailed data records and information and communications technologies, along with the interconnectivity they facilitate, is shifting our expectations regarding the provision of transport services and, in turn, altering the underlying skills necessary for their planning.
This course will explore the concept of Intelligent Mobility (IM) from the point of view of the operator/service provider. This will entail, first, understanding of the development of IM business models, with considerations of involved parties, target consumers, and technology needs. The class will also explore underlying data requirements, and the ways in which they may be generated and used in the transport context. New models of service and information provision will be addressed, with particular considerations of Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platforms and the governance, technical, and data requirements they imply.
An understanding of the technical data and delivery requirements of IM projects will be complemented by exploration of the associated governance, funding, and maintenance requirements of such systems. The geographic context of implementation will also be considered, as access to and availability of digital systems necessary for emerging technologies such as connected and autonomous vehicles will play a role in the likelihood of their adoption.
At the end of the course, students are expected to have a deep understanding of the role of data and digital systems in the IM context, along with an understanding of the implications these have for their implementation and success.
