Course Overview

This course is designed to provide a detailed review of core issues surrounding supply chain and operations management. The course reflects on the strategic importance of supply chain and operations processes. Learners will examine the nature of supply chain and operations processes for various organisations and consider the latest international developments from a broad spectrum of commercial sectors. In this way, learning outcomes will be increased and more easily transferred to the workplace.

Course Description

The course is to be delivered over the span of 4 half-day sessions:

Session 1 – 3.5 HR Lecture: Introduction to Operations Management.
Focusing on fundamentals of the three levels of operations management analysis: process, operation, and supply network.

Session 2 – 3.5 HR Lecture: Managing Supply Chains
Mainly themed around value chain and value networks. Simulation will also be run.

Session 3 – 3.5 HR Lecture: Managing Processes and Product Design
Delivered via case studies.

Session 4 – 3.5 HR Lecture: Managing Quality and Performance
This last session reflects on the previous discussion and considers the quality management and performance of the designed processes and products.

Feedback

Students will engage within a group simulation. The simulation will ultimately support students in applying their knowledge gained throughout the course, receive an opportunity to experience challenges that occur when running a supply chain, and then reflect upon the exercise in groups to draw out core learning points.

Feedback will be provided in class.
