Course Description

Instructional design has become a focal point of educational systems around the world because effective teaching methods and tools are the pathways to positive outcomes for students, teachers, and schools. This course will begin by exploring the unique characteristics and circumstances of ELT that make quality materials especially important. The course examines the various elements to consider when making informed decisions about learning processes and practices, including the age and competencies of the learners, the time and means available, and the expected outcomes of relevant stakeholders. Students will learn how to navigate an array of learner and contextual factors when determining learning objectives, organizing a course, selecting and designing materials, and choosing appropriate assessments.

The seminars for this course will be practice-oriented with a focus on applying the concepts through hands-on, collaborative sessions where students will have the opportunity to devise lesson plans and materials for different curriculum types, from language-focused classes to more innovative pedagogical approaches
