Last modified: 05 Aug 2021 13:04

Course Overview

This course provides an overview and detailed experience of using the Computer Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis Software programme NVivo.

Students will have the opportunity to develop their own project after learning about the NVivo workspace and the different data sources that can be uploaded including text, audio, image, video as well as social media through the NCapture tool.

The course will cover conducting Literature Reviews in NVivo, creating memos, how to organise and code data, making cases with linked attributes and attribute values, how to conduct queries and how to visualise and export data and reports.

Course Description

The course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to analyse qualitative data using NVivo software.

While exploring the advantages of analysing data with NVivo the limitations of this and other software will also be addressed.

Throughout the course each tool will be learnt and practised from creating an NVivo project file to uploading data, organising the data, analysing the data through text searches and in particular through coding. The auto-coding of semi-structured qualitative texts will be explained.

Students will have the opportunity to learn how to code, write memos linking to different items in their NVivo file, to create cases with attributes and attribute values and the different ways that their data can be queried.

Ways of visualising project items and analysis in maps and charts as well as how to export these and other items will be covered.
