This is an intensive and highly interactive course that provides students with training in the practical skills necessary to successfully negotiate international trade agreements. It examines the disciplines, tactics, politics, bargaining power, conduct and process of international trade negotiations. It covers the basic principles of negotiations, the elements of decision-making in trade policy and the negotiating strategies and phases of trade negotiation at domestic and international level. It identifies the key participants and their interests in trade negotiations. It also covers the formal and informal negotiating process within and between businesses groups, within the government and between countries. As part of the course, students negotiate 'mock' international trade agreements which provides them with real life experiences of trade negotiations and with the understanding of how trade negotiations are conducted.
