This course is a continuation of the study of Latin at postgraduate level. Like its prerequisite, Advanced Latin for Beginners 1, this course is specifically designed for postgraduate students who need to deal with Latin sources but who have arrived with little or no knowledge of Latin. This course enables students to gain the more advanced skills and experience they need for successful research at postgraduate level. The course should be taken following successful completion of Advanced Latin for Beginners 1, or by special permission from both the Course-Co-ordinator and the Programme Co-ordinator of the MLitt in Celtic & Anglo-Saxon Studies. The approach taken in this course is particularly appropriate for graduate students who come from around the world to study at Aberdeen, because it is based on acquiring expanded vocabulary using students' own native (Indo-European) languages, along with more advanced grammatical study. The course enables students to acquire a functional knowledge of Latin which they can successfully apply to specific research topic(s) in their own fields. This course will appeal to students in several MLitt and MSc programmes, and across Schools (particularly those in Language & Literature and Divinity, History, & Philosophy). It provides more advanced skills in Latin language which are essential for in-depth postgraduate research in mediaeval and/or early-modern studies.
