This course is designed for healthcare professionals with enhanced skills in an advanced practice role to safely assess and implement initial management of an adult patient with an episode of acute illness.
The skills and knowledge gained on this course could be required and pplied in most Primary and secondary Healthcare settings for adults. The knowledge, understanding and skills developed during this course will enable the pracittioner to accurately assess the patient with the acute and / or acute on chronic episode of illness, communicate their findings and then formulate a safe and appropriate plan of care for the patient including escalation of levels of care are required.

Course Aim:- To provide the underlying knowledge, skills and understanding to enable practitioners to assess and safely perform the initial management of an episode of acute or acute on chronic ilness.
Learning Outcomes:- On successful completion of this course as a practitioner you will be able to:-
- Discuss common casues of acute or acute on chronic illness
- Demonstrate a comprehensive patient assessment including history and clinical examination based on the presenting symptoms
- Formulate a comprehensive and safe patient management plan, including the need for escalation of, or referral for, further specialist care, based on the interpretation of the presentation and subsequent patient assessment. Critically analyse effective communication strategies to ensure the patient is informed, engaged and consents to the treatment plan.
- Analyse and discuss evidence-based approaches to promote patient safety in the context of acute illness.
On completion of this course the healthcare professional will be able to recognise, assess and manage an episode of care for a patient with acute or acute on chronic illness. This course will further enahance the practitioners skills and knoledge in the management of a patient taking a clinical history, clinical examination and formulating a plan of care.
