Medical Mycology focuses on pathogenic fungi and the diseases they cause in humans. Areas covered in this course include the fungi that cause disease, their mechanisms of pathogenesis, the clinical problems, and the host response (both in health and disease). The course, which is taught by medical mycology experts in the Aberdeen Fungal Group, will include background lectures, ‘state-of-the-art’ research seminars and practicals covering approaches that are highly relevant to the study of fungal diseases.

Areas covered in this course include the fungi that cause the most devastating and common diseases, their mechanisms of pathogenesis, the clinical problems, and the host response (both in health and disease). The course, which is taught by medical mycology experts in the Aberdeen Fungal Group, will start with Introductory lectures, followed by ‘state-of-the-art’ research seminars interspersed with practicals covering approaches highly relevant to the study of fungal diseases.

MCQ test (10%); Written exam (50%); practical reports (4 X 10%).
Resit will be by oral exam - will be held by programme coordinator and one other senior academic in the School
Questions will be designed to assess all of hte learning outcomes of the course
