Course Description

The language teaching profession can be very gratifying, but it may also be challenging at times. This course will allow students to explore the theoretical underpinnings of the complex interplay among psychological and environmental factors that influence the well-being of language teachers and learners. While doing so, students will examine strategies that can be used to promote well-being in the language teaching context. Common teaching- and learning-related stressors in the language classroom will be discussed and mindfulness-based strategies of coping with them will be explored and reflected on. The students will revisit their teaching pedagogy from the perspective of their own well-being as well as that of their language learners.
