This course offers students the opportunity to complete a substantial piece of data-driven, empirical work within the field of Health Psychology, under the supervision of an experienced Health Psychology researcher.
Topics available will be varied but within the domain of Health Psychology. Students will identify a suitable topic area, develop a research protocol, design and implement an empirical study and write up the results in the format of a journal article.

At the end of the research project students will be able to:
1.Select and critically appraise appropriate evidence from the wider research literature
2.Develop a high-quality problem statement and translate this in research questions or hypotheses
3.Design an appropriate and methodologically sound empirical study
that will address these research questions/hypotheses
4.Write a clear and replicable study protocol
5.Identify and develop strategies to resolve ethical issues
6.Design and construct the research instruments required for data collection in a methodologically justified fashion
7.Have hands-on experience with data collection
8.Analyse and interpret project data appropriately
9.Critically reflect on the quality of one’s research and the contribution of the obtained results
10.Write up a study introduction, methods, results and discussion to a publishable standard

The research project is assessed with a written thesis in the style of a Health Psychology journal article (5,000 words; 90%) and a 15 minute oral presentation in the style of conference talk (10%)
