Course Overview

This course will provide exposure to the wider social and political context of healthcare education and support students to contribute to curriculum development and informed educational debate and discussion. Students will attend face to face sessions. Assessment will be in the form of a reflective account and submission of a proposal for change/research project.

Summative Assessments

1 00 words on one of the workshop topics and how this relates to the student’s practice (70%; 2000 words on a Critical Literature Review of a specified topic within the field of Leadership in Higher/Clinical Education (30%).

Formative and Summative feedback is provided in electronic, written and face-to-face form, depending on the nature of the assessment and the needs of the individual student.

Course Learning Outcomes

    1. Reflect and review the theory and practice of management and leadership in medical education and where this sits in regards to their own practice.
    2. Differentiate the many roles of vision and governance in medical education and identify its impact in their own areas of practice
    3. Be able to critically review and evaluate evidence in a specified topic within Leadership in Higher/Clinical Education, and identify gaps in the literature to make suggestions for further research and to build on evidence in those areas.
