Course Overview

This course aims to cover the main aspects of drilling and well engineering in the petroleum industry. This will include an in-depth look at drilling techniques and technologies. Another key aspect of this course will be the issue of communication between geoscientists and engineers.

Course Description

1. Rig equipment and service provision(decision process dependant on location, alongside licensing reviews and contracts) 2. Well engineering 3. Well design and drilling fluids (including drill bits, string design, directional and casing & cementing) 4. Impact of drilling fluids on real-time data acquisition. 5. Dual gradient drilling techniques 6. Stuck pipe and prevention 7. Well control 8. Formation evaluation and interpretation (dicussion of techniques used for appraisal and overview of gamma, resistivity, gas applications) 9. Completions 10. Well types and complexities 11. Technology R&D and patent disclosure timeline.
