This course will equip students with the required knowledge of offshore and subsea oil and gas production systems, and to enable them to gain an appreciation of the infrastructure and facilities that need to be removed during decommissioning.

This course will introduce students to various aspects of offshore structures and subsea systems, including field architecture, subsea hardware and subsea pipelines, and how such systems are maintained and monitored. The technical and engineering challenges related to oil and gas production in subsea fields around the world, as they relate to end of life operations and decommissioning will be addressed.

Continuous assessment: A report on the different elements of subsea production infrastructure and the challenges they each pose in decommissioning campaigns (30%; Three hour written examination (70%).
Resit: similar to 1st attempt, with the continuous assessment mark carried forward with an opportunity to resit the component that was failed in the first attempt.
