This course provides insight into the business reasons for large software systems such as loyalty card systems, backend systems integrating firms and their suppliers and larges systems that integrate payroll, finance and operational parts of a business. You also learn the entrepreneurial aspects of business during the practical sessions where you explore and develop your own business application idea using service design and lean startup approaches centred around customer development, which you will find useful in any future work.

a) principles of business computing including customer relationship management, supply chain management, data warehousing and online analytical processing, enterprise resource planning and business information systems b)security issues in computing including authentication, cryptography, secure signatures and threat analysis.

(ii) To be taken as part of the MSc/PgDip in Information Systems, Information Technology or Geospatial Information Systems.

1st Attempt:
50% groupwork comprising:
25% team portfolio submission comprising of at least four items plus a written report of 1500 words explaining the other artefacts in the portfolio used in the development of the team project
25% team portfolio submission comprising a 1500-word group report explaining the final development of their project idea with supporting artefacts from their portfolio of work used in the development of the idea.
Resit:
50% individual work comprising two 2000 word essays with suitable references and critique:
25% on a topic of their choice within the subjects being covered
25% for a reflective piece on the team effort during the term
