Course Description

The course covers the core concepts of public health (including population at risk, prevention, effective intervention, monitoring population health, burden of isease and health inequalities) across the three major public health domains of health protection, health promotion and healthcare evaluation.  the course is predominantly baed around a numerical 'health needs assessment' approach (burden of ill-health, effective intervention) with the provision of support/services in the context of political-economic-social circumstances to improving the health of a population.  The course provides an opportunity for postgraduate students to select a 'health needs assessment' topic on which to undertake a brief/rapid health needs assessment.

For MPH students this second semester course builds on the previous first semester 'core' courses of epidemiology and applied statistics.  The MPH student can also use their 'health needs assessment' work to underpin their research-based coursework.
