This course provides a more detailed follow-up to the issues of professional skills identified in Palaeography I, with an increasing focus on the particular needs of the individual students. Reading and transcription-skills continue to be developed. Script-recognition and professional evaluation of the evidence of script are taught, as are relevant aspects of the history of the book and of the various physical forms of documentary record. Assessment is by in-course tests and by a final essay arising from practical project-work with documentary manuscript sources in the Aberdeen City Archives.
