The Engineering Risk and Reliability Analysis course develops knowledge and understanding of the key concepts in technical safety, risk and reliability used in engineering.
The course introduces general risk assessment principles and the application of probabilistic risk modelling schemes. Reliability theory and computation are addressed, using recognised engineering industry reliability methods. Students will also be introduced to safety management and human reliability, including safety management systems.

The course includes three topic areas. The initial part introduces the students to general risk assessment principles, focussing on some of the qualitative and quantitative techniques. Appropriate training on the application of probabilistic modelling schemes would be provided.
The second part of the course focusses on reliability computations based on 'physics of failure' approach, covering problem formulation and the use of structural reliability methods such as FORM and Monte Carlo simulations.
The third main topic is an introduction to safety management and human reliability, including safety management systems.
