This new course engages at length and in depth with the thought of one or more formative thinkers in the Christian theological tradition to foster critical reflection on the scope and coherence of Christian teaching as well as the defining concerns and conventions of Christian systematic theology; and to cultivate in students the interpretative and analytical skills required for advanced work in the discipline. In a year-long series of fortnightly seminars, students will engage intensively with one or more works from the Christian doctrinal tradition.

In a year-long series of fortnightly seminars, students will engage intensively with one or more works from the Christian doctrinal tradition. This normally will take the form of close study of (some portion of) a major work of theological codification, such as a medieval summa, a post-reformation compendium, or a modern systematic theology.

1st attempt: Text analyses (10 papers; 750 words each) (60%) Final Oral exam (40%) – NB: the exam will be conducted by two members of academic staff and recorded so as to be made fully available to external examiners as required by University policies.
Resit: oral exam (100%).
