This course is based upon the analysis of Globalization and the process of internationalisation from comparative business and socio-economic perspectives. Students will learn about inter alia the role of large and small businesses in the contemporary international environment; transition economies and new EU member states; the process and modes of privatization; the role of supra-national organizations; cultural dimensions of international businesses; international trade; the role of social capital. To support the lecture themes, there are case studies, and written assessed assignment focusing upon the internationalization of a business.

This course will cover the global economy and international business. Reviewing historical components of regional economic integration, such as the EU, NAFTA and others in Asia and in the Middle East, students will be presented with issues of globalisation and anti-globalisation of free trade, including a study of the World Trade Organisation.

1st attempt: 100% continuous assessment. Resit: For the individual elements students who score below CAS 9 will be required to submit the respective elements within six weeks of the mark and feedback being returned.
Individual Piece: 3000 word written report (70% of total course marks) ; Group Piece comprising 20 minute Presentation (15%) and 1000 word Briefing Note (15% ). Students must attempt all elements to pass the course. Recordings of the presentations will be kept for external examiner review.
Resit: If a student fails to reach a pass mark of CGS D3 overall, they may be permitted to undertake a resit of the substantive assignment.
