Managing human resources well is important for survival and prosperity of organizations and economies, and has implications for individual attitudes and well-being. Managers are expected to contribute to the delivery of the human resource strategy, supported by expert advice and guidance. This module explores the key concepts underpinning the management of human resources and their practical application in organisations today. We will focus on four important themes within HRM:
· Recruitment and selection
· Equality and diversity
· Flexible employment and work-life balance
· Talent management
You will be encouraged to share your views and experiences through class discussion and debate.

The indicative content covered by the course would include the following topics: • Strategic HRM • Operational challenges: e.g., Recruitment and selection; Managing employee relations; Equality and diversity at work • HRM Processes: e.g., workforce planning; performance and rewards management

Individual Piece: 3000 word written report (70% of total course marks) ; Group Piece comprising 20 minute Presentation (15%) and 1000 word Briefing Note (15% ). Students must attempt all elements to pass the course. Recordings of the presentations will be kept for external examiner review.
Resit: If a student fails to reach a pass mark of CGS D3 overall, they may be permitted to undertake a resit of the substantive assignment.
A group piece comprising 30% of the total course marks; An individual essay considering the set question (3,000 words). Your essay should critically evaluate relevant theory and present a coherent argument that directly addresses the question. This assessment comprises 70% of the total course marks.
Resit: There is no opportunity to resit the group-based assignment. Students may retake the individual coursework assignments within six weeks of having received a coursework grade of less than D3 together with feedback on performance.
