PU5033: INTRODUCTION TO GLOBAL HEALTH (2016-2017)

Course Overview

This course provides students with skills for career development and an introduction to the field of global health.  Career development topics include strategic planning, skills analysis, self-awareness, goal setting and professionalism in the workplace. For global health, we hold a series of ‘film club’ seminars using online, digital and social media to study content from leading global health advocates, practitioners and scholars. Discussion themes are developed in class debate and group work. At the end of the course, students who take the second stage elective PU5521: Work Based Placements also apply for advertised placement opportunities.

Course Description

Students whose applications have been successful work with host organisations either based at the University or within the organisation as appropriate, e.g. 1 day/week. Also provided are three  2 hour workshops, plus regular meetings with workplace and academic supervisor to provide support and guidance.

Further Information & Notes

For the MSc/PgDip/PgCert in Global Health and Management, this is compulsory non-credit bearing course. This means that all students are required to attend regardless of whether they take the 2nd stage elective PU5521: Work Based Placements.
