This course will introduce students to the central themes of Irish and Scottish History, comparing Irish and Scottish historians' treatments of shared concerns. They will also be introduced to the key theoretical writings on the nationhood and union polities. Topics will include political union, famine and hunger, cultural nationalism and the politics of independence.
