Course Description

This course examines the solar and geothermal energy industries including resources, technologies, practical implementation, development, barriers, environmental and sustainable issues. Some case studies are investigated for solar and geothermal energy projects. Students will carry out a design project to enhance their intellectual ability and transferable skills.

Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 30 August 2024 for 1st term courses and 20 December 2024 for 2nd term courses.

Summative Assessments

1st attempt: Three hour written examination (70%); plus continuous assessment (30%).

Resit: The re-sit will comprise of re-doing the failed element/s (exam and/or coursework assessment/s) from the 1st attempt with a maximum CGS mark of D3. The marks for other elements (successfully passed) will be carried over. Resit mark of either RP or RF will be recorded.

Formative Assessment

The course will include opportunities to assess individual progress with the concepts and material being delivered via continuous assessment exercises. Feedback will be given over the course during the tutorial sessions. 

Feedback

Marked submissions (typically via MyAberdeen) will be returned to the students promptly, including feedback on the laboratory exercises. Whole-class feedback and solutions to past assignment or exams are provided via MyAberdeen.
