This is the second module in the recently developed, SCEL initiated Into Headship PG certificate programme. The aim of this course is to enable participants to gain the knowledge and understanding needed to manage a collaborative change process with members of the wider school community. The module will also map sets of strategies to address the educational issue identified in Module 1 of the PG Certificate.

Course content will cover:
The course is based upon the model of professional learning which comprises four interdependent components: critical reflection, knowledge building, experiential learning and social learning processes.
Nature of change and strategic change processes: Building capability and capacity for improvement
Organisational cultures and the political and ethical dimensions of the context and culture for headship
Stakeholder engagement and the importance of inclusive approaches; working with the community and the school to build commitment; appreciative enquiry
Emergent and responsive planning within an appreciative inquiry frame
Change improvement and sustainability
Long term planning: cycles, milestones and responsive planning
Resource planning and risk assessment
Managing conflict and securing commitment
Developing and managing the action research cycle

First attempt: Participants will be required to submit for summative
assessment, assignment(s) equivalent to 8,000 words which will be assessed
against specific criteria. There will be two elements to the assignment and
participants must satisfy both elements in order to receive a pass grade.
Resit: A revised version of the appropriate part of the
assessment will be required in the event of a submission failing to meet the
assessment criteria.
