This course is designed to extend knowledge and understanding and enhance practice in mentoring and coaching. Participants will develop a critical understanding of the theoretical concepts and principles underpinning approaches to mentoring and coaching; reflect critically on their own attitudinal qualities, interpersonal and communication skills when in role as a mentor and mentee; through skills development, enhance their skills when involved in mentoring and coaching contexts; contribute to enhancing the quality of provision within their learning community through undertaking mentoring and coaching related activities and reflect on the impact of their role on self and others.

There is overlap in terms of the roles/skills deployed by mentors and coaches.

Ø Some of the content will be generic for all participants and other content will be contextualised/extended to suit the specific professional contexts of course participants eg:

1st attempt: 1 written summative assignment (equivalent to 6,000 words) 100% with supporting portfolio evidence
This will take the form of a critical reflection on/professional enquiry into models of mentoring and coaching and reflection on own professional experiences/practice in mentoring
Resit: One opportunity to resubmit the 6,000 word assignment
