The course aims to equip students with the required knowledge of offshore oil and gas production systems in order to understand the application of safety and reliability principles in the oil and gas context. A holistic overview is provided on how an oil/gas field is found, developed, managed and decommissioned. The key technical elements on the handling, treatment and production of oil and gas are covered in order to appreciate the safety systems needed in the industry and to understand the role of workforce.

Using MyAberdeen students will receive all notes in advance. They will be able to access all necessary teaching materials and have frequent contact with the course tutor.
Notes: Optional course along with EG5096 but EG5072/EG501F is the recommended course for students taking the MSc Safety & Reliability Engineering for Oil and Gas. Students may only take EG5096 if they can demonstrate that they have satisfied the learning outcomes of EG5072/EG501F through industrial experience.

70% final exam and 30% continuous assessment. The coursework comprises a report. The topic will be related to but outwith the taught material, providing an opportunity for in-depth self study.
