Course Overview

This course aims to equip delegates with a detailed understanding of project management techniques and related operations management concepts such as risk and resilience, location, and quality that are important to the energy industries. Included in this are the 3Ps, project roles and governance, scope,  the project business case, organisational structures, breakdown structure, scheduling, resource management, earned value management, project leadership and communication.

Course Description

Standard project management techniques: PERT /CPM and Gantt charts. Project management software. Resource allocation and management. Risk and resilience. Location and project selection decisions. Quality. Management of quality, cost and time. Osmotic disruption.

Summative Assessments

1st attempt: Three coursework assignments. The first is an individual assignment and composes 40% of the course grade. (2000 words) The second is a group-based assignment and composes 30% of the course grade. (presentation or summary - 1500 words) The third is an individual assignment and composes 30% of the course grade (1500 words). Resit: here is no opportunity to resit the group-based assignment. Students may retake the individual coursework assignments within six weeks of having received a coursework grade of less than CAS 9 (or equivalent if CAS is discontinued) together with feedback on performance.
