Course Overview

This course will provide you with a ‘hands on’ experience in conducting an extensive individual research project for six months, in a Public Health context. This project will address a particular Public Health issue and is designed to develop your core competence in identifying and handling research questions and their answers by the methods of enquiry and analysis relevant to the full range of health services and public health activities.

Course Description

During the time of conducting the research projects, students will NOT attend any lectures but will be placed within an established academic research team. Student will work closely with two experts; one in the subject/topic area and the other in methodology. Students will develop a detailed research protocol and experience the application of the knowledge and skills in health care research, in a Public Health context. While undertaking the research project, students will attend a seminar series in ‘Public Health’ to substantiate and guide the application of research.  At the end of the research project, students will produce a Thesis, develop and present a conference poster and have opportunities to publish their work in a peer reviewed scientific journal.
