Course Description

The course covers the core concepts of public health (such as population at risk, prevention, burden of disease, effective intervention, monitoring population health and health inequalities) across the three major public health domains of health protection, health promotion and healthcare evaluation.

The course is predominantly based around a numerical ‘health needs assessment’ approach (burden of ill-health and effective intervention) with the provision of support/services in the context of political-economic-social circumstances to improving the health of a population.

The course provides an opportunity for postgraduate students to select a ‘health needs assessment topic’ on which to undertake a brief/rapid health needs assessment.
