The North-East Scotland: History, Landscape, Culture and Economy course is designed primarily for those who are interested in learning about the history and culture of the North-East of Scotland. Topics covered include: the history of Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and beyond, the particular landscape and geology of the area, the rise and decline of the fishing industry, the development of tourism, how North-East Scotland’s identity has been informed by its language (Doric), literature and music, and its unique contribution to the success of Scotland’s food and drink industry.

The course aims to provide a scholarly introduction to key elements of the history, culture, landscape, environment and economy of North-East Scotland. It will equip participants with the appropriate skills to undertake further research and develop their own knowledge of the region. Participants will be guided through the course, enabling them to acquire the core knowledge necessary in order to progress their training as tour guides, where applicable.

Throughout the course participants will be expected to undertake regular online tests, to assess their current knowledge and understanding of the topics. These will take the form of quizzes based on the constituent parts of the course. There will also be one final quiz at the end of the course, taking a selection of questions from all the topics covered. |
