This course studies all aspects of solar energy including the concept, resources, technologies, practical implementation, development, barriers, environmental and sustainable issues. Some case studies are investigated for solar energy projects.
The syllabus is the following:
1. Sun solar spectrum, effects of earth's atmosphere, orbit and rotation on insolation
2. Solar cell and solar panel equivalent circuit and electrical model
3. DC/DC and DC/AC converters with application in PV systems
4. Maximum power point tracking (MPPT)
5. Solar thermal power generation
6. Solar energy storage systems
7. Stand-alone and grid-tied PV systems design
Information on contact teaching time is available from the course guide.
