Students will learn to formulate a health research question that can be addressed with an evidence review. They will learn the principles and purposes of different types of evidence review and work through the stages of a systematic review. They will study how synthesised evidence may be implemented in practice at different levels (e.g., patient, clinician, health system), about factors that may influence implementation (e.g., barriers/enablers) and strategies that may be used to address these factors.

Course Aims:
The aim of this course is to enable the fundamental understanding of evidence synthesis and the application of evidence based health at an individual- and population-level.
Topics the course covers:
Teaching and Learning Methods:
Teaching and learning for this course will involve a combination of Powerpoint videos with accompanying self-tests and quizzes, practical exercises using databases such as Medline, video interviews with accompanying guides, a computer-based practical session, self-study of recommended reading material, discussion boards and assignments.
Students will be expected to engage with the online material each week. We would strongly encourage students to complete all the suggested exercises as these are designed to deliver and reinforce the course material. Some units involve a greater time commitment than others, but on average you can expect to spend around 15 hours per week working through the materials and contributing to the “discussion board”. This time commitment includes preparation time for formal assessments.
