Course Overview

The Emerging Musical Practitioner explores the similarities and differences between a range of philosophical and pedagogical approaches to engaging people and communities in music making. The course will explore a range of practitioner styles including Community Musicians, Music Educators, Music Therapists and Instrumental and Vocal Instructors.

Course Description

The Emerging Musical Practitioner is open to, and relevant for any musician who would like to explore wider vocational options in music; whether as a composer, educator (formal or informal), musicologist or performer.


The course starts by examining why, how and when people interact and engage with music before looking closely at how as reflective practitioners and pedagogical improvisors we ensure that we place the needs of the participant at the forefront of our approaches when engaging individuals and communities in music making.


This is an active course the seeks to combine academic and practical study providing students with the tools to pursue further training in a broad range of practitioner styles.
