Course Description

This course explores the issues which must be assessed prior to medicines development and marketing. In particular a series of exemplar disease states are utilized to highlight the importance of understanding disease pathophysiology, epidemiology, current best treatments, drugs in development, and the economic cost of the disease burden and the potential value to the population and developed of a new medication. The rationale for appropriately designed drug trials to demonstrate efficacy and the need for appropriate power and disease end point selection are also discussed. The importance of critical review of current literature relevant and treatment guidelines relevant to exemplar disease states will be explored.
