Course Overview

This course examines the legal and policy framework governing the energy market design and decarbonisation. In particular, it will engage in the issues of energy market liberalisation, network regulation, and measures related to decarbonising the electricity supply. With a focus on the UK, the course also considers European Union and other jurisdictions to draw comparison and analysis.

Course Description

This course examines the legal and policy framework governing the energy market design and decarbonisation. In particular, it will engage in the issues of energy security energy market liberalisation, network regulation, consumer protection, and measures related to decarbonising the electricity supply. With a focus on the UK, the course also considers European Union and other jurisdictions to draw comparison and analysis.

 

The course will address the following topics:

  1. Energy security
  2. Introduction to energy market regulation: legal frameworks and actors
  3. Liberalisation of energy markets
  4. Energy network regulation
  5. Consumer protection in the energy sector
