Course Overview

This course deals with the rules of evidence as they apply in the courtroom. The rules in both criminal and civil cases will be analysed. The legal requirements for leading real evidence, documentary evidence and witness testimony are considered. Topics include: relevancy, the corroboration rule, hearsay evidence, expert evidence, confession evidence and search evidence. The subject is highly topical and practically important to all lawyers

Course Description

The course will cover basic concepts within the law of evidence viz, relevance, burdens and standards of proof, admissibility and sufficiency as they operate in criminal and civil proceedings.

Students are not required to pass both elements individually in order to pass the course, as long as their overall grade is a pass. Where a student has not passed overall, they will be required to resit (at the resit diet) whichever element has not been passed - either the MCQ or online exam (if a student has failed both elements then they will resit both elements)
