Course Overview

Expand your knowledge of financial technology (Fintech) and Big Data through gaining knowledge and understanding of recent advances and transformational changes that are taking place in many areas of the finance industry.

This course will give you an understanding of advancements in technology, from blockchain to mobile access internet and machine learning. You will have the opportunity to learn how these new innovations are leading to improved decision making and increased efficiency through insights generated from data.

Course Description

Financial Technology (Fintech) and Big Data are fast becoming household names in financial services. Fintech leverages on the advancements in technology, from blockchain to mobile access internet and machine learning, to develop new ways of providing financial services. At the same time, the explosive Big Data offers opportunities for new and incumbent players to improve decision making and increase efficiency through insights generated from data. These advances have brought transformational changes in many areas of the finance industry. The overarching aim of this course is to introduce you to the concepts of Financial Technology (Fintech) and Big Data, their application and challenges.

By the end of this course, you will: 

  • Have knowledge of the recent innovations in financial technology that are reshaping the financial services.
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge of Fintech domestic and cross border payment innovations
  • Gain an understanding of Fintech application in Wealth and Investment Management
  • Develop the ability to describe the key technologies that drive Fintech innovations in financial services.
  • Be introduced to the concept of Big Data, its sources, pre-processing methods, integration and storage.
  • Develop knowledge of different types of data storage and integration methods.
  • Gain an understanding of methods of Big Data visualisation and the ability to describe advanced data analysis tools and methods.
  • Be introduced to the concept of Big Data, its sources, pre-processing methods, integration and storage.
  • Gain an understanding of the rationale for Fintech regulations and data protection and how they can affect innovations in the financial industry.
  • Be provided with a supportive environment which enables you to become proficient at identifying how Fintech and Big Data can be used to solve real-world challenges
