This course is designed to allow student primary teachers to develop professional knowledge and understanding within a core curricular area. Students will study Literacy / English and Numeracy / Mathematics. Content is interactive and enquiry-based and the acquisition of current, evidence-based professional knowledge will be complemented by exploration of the core pedagogies that support the learning and teaching process.

In literacy / English student will study: talking, listening, reading, writing; coherent planning for stimulating, differentiated learning; assessment of literacy skills; strategies to support pupils with additional support needs (ASN) and specifically with English as a an additional language (EAL); relevant research, policy and theory.
In both planning effectively for relevant and appropriate learning experiences within the context of their core area at first/second level and assessing learning.
