Graduation

Congratulations on your impending graduation!

Your graduation is an official celebration of your accomplishments during your time at the University of Aberdeen. Below is all the information you need to be fully prepared.

Students expecting to complete their studies and wishing to graduate should register by completing the application form that will be shared to you by graduation@abdn.ac.uk. The deadline for applications for in person Winter 2023 graduations is 13 October 2023. Students can apply to graduate in person at Aberdeen main campus or in-absentia (not appear at an Aberdeen main campus ceremony).

It is extremely important that the correct options are selected when filling the application link, i.e. whether you wish to graduate in absentia or in person. Please note that if you graduate in-absentia, you are choosing to not attend the graduation ceremony in Aberdeen- Scotland and will be sent a separate email to register for the in-person ceremony of AFG College with the University of Aberdeen in Qatar. You still need to apply to graduate. Only students who have filled the link will be eligible to graduate.

Tickets

Your graduation ceremony is a very special event and it is natural that you will want to share the day with your loved ones.

All guests (including children 12-year-old and above) admitted to the Graduation Ceremony must be in possession of a ticket. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Graduating students do not require a ticket.

The ceremony will be streamed live on YouTube.

Extra Tickets

Qatar Ceremonies

You will be contacted by AFG when the extra tickets are ready to be purchased and collected.

Graduation Gowns/Robes & Photographs

Students will require a gown, the appropriate hood and a hat. If you do not have robes, you will not be permitted to graduate.

When you arrive for your ceremony, you should be wearing the gown set.

Students can wear whatever they feel comfortable wearing. Military uniform or national costume (including full highland daydress) and/or Blues Medals may be worn. Graduation robes, hoods and trencher colours are dependent on degree.

Qatar Ceremony

If you wish to only attend the ceremony in Qatar, you will be contacted by AFG for gown order placements, purchases and collections.

Photograph orders for the Qatar ceremony will also be communicated to you by AFG.

Aberdeen Ceremonies

If you should attend the ceremony at Aberdeen Scotland in Summer or Winter, you should order robes at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance of your ceremony, contact Ede & Ravenscroft, the University’s official provider. Please check key dates for the latest date to do this.

You can use the same robe, hood and cap purchased for the Aberdeen Scotland ceremony in the Qatar ceremony should you wish to attend both graduation events.

Robes can be collected from P&J Live venue.

If you wish to keep your robes for longer, please contact Ede & Ravenscroft in advance to arrange this.

Photograph orders can also be booked at the same time as gowns are ordered, please contact Ede & Ravenscroft.
