Welcome from the Principal, Brian Buckley

Welcome from the Principal, Brian Buckley
2023-10-02

I would like to welcome back our returning and new students in this new academic year. I hope that they had an enjoyable summer break and are eager to start their studies this semester.

Students here at our Qatar campus have access to a range of student services and societies. Our student services and events team provide first points of contact for our students to support them through their journey. Our careers department organises internship and career related events during their studies, identifying suitable career opportunities on completion of their studies.

We run regular student careers events attracting a range of companies from Qatar and from the wider region. These companies include key government organisations as well as private and public entities. This valuable opportunity to network with employers for the future career outcomes has been a very successful strategy for our graduates, allowing them to identify full-time career opportunities within a very short period after the completion of their degree programme.

Although the students are enrolled in the Qatar campus, it is important for us to deliver an experience similar to that of Aberdeen. This is done via our experienced teaching faculty that deliver the programmes, along with the visiting faculty from the main campus. Our students can opt to study in Aberdeen for a semester or a full academic year. We also ensure that our calendar of events and activities are aligned with Aberdeen’s, mirroring their activities and events here and vice versa. Furthermore, students can choose to attend the graduation ceremony at either Aberdeen, Qatar or both.

For me, the most important thing for students to do is to enjoy their time at AFG College with the University of Aberdeen and to take full advantage of the quality of education that we provide, to ensure that they build their networks, make lifelong friendships, and last but not least to develop their characters for their future.

Wishing everyone all the best for their studies.
