Internships

Internships

The School of Psychology offers many possibilities for students who wish to gain hands-on research experience alongside their studies.

Voluntary Research Experience

Students who want to gain insights into the range of research activities we do in the School of Psychology are welcome to volunteer. Voluntary work is possible throughout term and summer. You might work on your own project, or help a member of staff or another student with their project.

Paid Summer Research Internships

There are several funding options available for summer internships, including from organisations such as the Wellcome Trust, EPS, BPS, BBSRC and the Carnegie Trust. These internships are mostly for Level 3 students but some also allow for applications from Level 2 students.

What do you need to do?
  • Think about what kind of topic you would like to learn more about (e.g., face or object recognition, motion perception, ageing, emotions) and/or what research skills you would like to develop (e.g., interviewing, eye-tracking, EEG).

  • Look at the list of staff members to find a person whose research you are interested in. Once you have identified a potential supervisor, contact them to find out about opportunities and possible projects.

  • For paid research internships, current students have access to an internship handbook which outlines the specific opportunities available and the process for applying.

  • If you have any general questions, please contact internship coordinator, Dr Madge Jackson
