Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Internships
Three students worked on EDI internships in 2025, exploring AI in higher education, accessibility and inclusivity of teaching materials and evaluating the Aurora Women's Leadership Development Programme.
Whether you want to work in a psychology-related discipline or further afield, your degree gives you a great basis from which to work across the private, public and third sectors in psychological professions or other roles. The university offers opportunities for you to build your skills and develop your employability through internships and volunteering in the school.

These are open to undergraduate psychology students. They take place during the summer and usually last 6-10 weeks. Applications tend to open from November with deadlines falling between January-March.

These internships are open to all students at the university and normally open three times a year. Internships take place during the term and over the summer and are hosted by charities, small businesses or public sector organisations.

Voluntary work is possible throughout term and summer and normally consists of helping a member of staff or another student with their project. Opportunities are internally advertised throughout the year.
Funded Psychology Research internships are open to undergraduate students. Applications for funded Psychology research internships tend to open from November with deadlines falling between the end of January to end of March. You need to have a prior agreed supervisor from the School of Psychology in order to apply. Internships are usually 6-10 weeks long and are conducted during the summer.
There are several funding options available for summer internships, including from organisations such as the EPS, BPS and the Carnegie Trust and internal University/School of Psychology funded options. Most funded internships are for Level 3 Psychology students but some extend to other undergraduate years.
If you want to secure a psychology funded research internship, you should think about what kind of topic you would like to learn more about and/or what research skills you would like to develop. You need to agree a supervisor in advance (look at the list of staff members to see who you might approach). Once you have identified a potential supervisor, contact them to find out about opportunities and possible projects.
The School of Psychology offers funded Equality, Diversity and Inclusion internships to all Psychology undergraduates. These positions are advertised and students apply competitively. Applications open in March and internships take place over the summer, supervised by our members of staff.
More information regarding paid internship opportunities is provided to current students in our internships guide (available internally). If you have any general questions, please contact internship coordinator, Dr Nejc Sedlar.
The ABDN Internship opportunities are run by the Careers and Employability Service and are are available at various points throughout the year. All internships are paid and take place part-time during term time and full-time during the summer. ABDN Internships are concentrated on the health and wellbeing, creative and cultural sectors and are mainly hosted by charities or small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs).
